KINGSWOOD & SOUNDWELL Local History Site
MAPS OF THE KINGSWOOD AREA
The first map of Kingswood was made in 1610, at a time when ownership of the land was in dispute. The next one available dates from 1672, when the forest was being divided up among the local dignitry. Then there is one from 1750 which shows the mining activity and cottages more clearly.
I'll show them in the following pages, along with any other old maps that I come across.
For further study, the Ordnance Survey maps from 1902 are now available for sale (they usually cost £3 or £4 including postage on eBay).
Even better are the maps available free of charge at maps.bristol.gov.uk/knowyourplace. The 1880's one shows our area very well.
